Franchisees get new advocate
Small Business Commissioner will help protect franchisees (ABC: Jason Tin)
Appointment of a Small Business Commissioner will help protect franchisees from their larger parent companies, the South Australian Government says.
The new Commissioner will monitor the treatment of small business and mediate in disputes.
SA Small Business Minister Tom Koutsantonis says new franchisees can be vulnerable to unfair terms when they sign up.
"The idea that you're forced to buy stock not at market rates is unfair," he said.
"Being told to buy stock that you don't need for sales that you don't have is unfair and in the past it had no redress.
"This will give them the ability to make sure that they have an advocate."
