Sobeys has ruled out tampering in the case of a loaf of bread purchased at the Millrise store that contained pieces of glass.
Company spokesman Mike Lupien said Sobeys and the bread manufacturer is still investigating, but the glass is likely due to a manufacturing defect.
The Calgary Police Service is also looking into the incident. Calgary has seen a number of reports of food tampering in recent months involving most major grocery chains. The Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors has offered a $10,000 reward for information.
Lupien said it was a surprise to see this case reported as tampering.
"We were pretty certain it wasn't product tampering," he said.
Sobeys is working with the manufacturer to determine how the glass got into the bread.
