Calgary police probe more possible food-tampering
CALGARY — Another possible case of food-tampering has been reported in Calgary.
Police are looking into reports that pieces of glass were found in a loaf of bread purchased at a Sobeys store in the city's Millrise area.
"They had a complaint and are looking into it," said duty inspector Keith Cain.
Investigators can't say whether the case involved deliberate tampering, accidental damage or manufacturing defect.
Calgary has seen a wave of similar incidents in recent months targeting stores in most major grocery store chains.
As many as 16 cases of possible food-tampering have been reported, including a previous incident at the Millrise store.
The Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to charges.
Authorities have warned Calgarians to inspect purchases before eating them. The cases may be the work of copycats, according to police.
