For-profit health care generates huge profits for companies south of the border. I experienced exorbitant U.S. health-insurance premiums, inflated medical costs, and incredible administrative hassles over payments for medical services. I only hope Canadians continue to appreciate our universal health-care system and withstand the propaganda coming from the United States.

Kingston — Alan Cassels (Is Big Pharma Pulling Canada's Chain? — Oct. 30) refers to a leaked document from U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturers indicating the allocation of $1-million (U.S.) to "change the Canadian health-care system." As a Canadian who worked in the U.S. for many years, I was frequently presented with negative comments about the Canadian health-care system.
These unsolicited comments came from doctors, other health-care providers and employee health insurance representatives. Since they knew almost nothing about Canada in other respects, I always wondered where they got their information and why they were so anxious to deprecate the Canadian system. My guess is that the industry propaganda campaign against the Canadian system has been going on for years.
