General Nutrition Companies, a Pittsburgh-based retailer of nutritional supplements, plans to open 400 franchise stores in Canada over the next five years.
The firm already has 127 corporate stored in Canada and four franchises – in Toronto, Ottawa, Windsor and Calgary.
GNC operates more than 5,300 retail outlets throughout the United States, including 1,360 U.S. franchise locations. The company said it has opened 148 franchise stores around the world this year and is active in 26 countries outside the United States.
General Nutrition Companies Inc. calls itself the largest U.S. specialty retailer of vitamin, mineral an herbal supplements, sports nutrition and personal care and related products. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Numico N.V. of Zoetermeer, the Netherlands.
